So you’re thinking about moving to Utah? My family and I were in the same position not that many years ago, so we don’t blame you. Utah is known for its great quality of life, low crime, gorgeous national parks, and it's beautiful landscape. This state and the cost of living is more affordable than some of the surrounding states and offers similar climate and access to stunning mountains. 1. Utah’s national parks are something you will never forget.
Utah is home to five incredible national parks including, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, and Arches. Many of these parks offer family friendly hikes, scenery you don’t want to miss, and rock formations that are unbelievable. Utah’s beautiful national parks are something you don’t want to miss.
2. So much to do in Salt Lake City
If you’re moving to Utah, Salt Lake City offers a wide range of activities. Salt Lake City is known for its fine arts, live music, award-winning restaurants, and a variety of family friendly activities. The city and the surrounding areas are filled with parks for outdoor enjoyment. In fact, the city has a total of 81 public parks! These parks range from the spacious regional parks to the neighborhood parks.
3. The job market in Utah is in good shape.
Utah has experienced a strong job market and its residents have been known to have a high quality of life. Salt Lake City and Provo, Utah frequently make lists as some of the strongest job markets.
4. Traveling Hub in Salt Lake City.
Did you know that Salt Lake City is a HUGE Travel Hub? It is Delta’s western hub and is the second largest in size in the United States. If you travel frequently for work or pleasure, living in Salt Lake City and the surrounding areas gives you many options.

However, if you’re thinking of moving or relocating to Utah from a state with no income tax, you’re in for a change. Property taxes in Utah are on the low side, compared to many other states like California. Sales taxes are around the U.S. average and Utah has no estate tax.
6. Utah home prices and cost of living.
Salt Lake City has seen a boom in real estate over the last couple of years. Renters currently make up almost 51% of the households in Salt Lake City. Rental rates are also on the rise due to inflation and an increase in the housing market. The median home value is $543,774 in March 2022 and Utah home values have risen 29.9% over the past year. If you are thinking about buying a home in Utah, there is a good chance you will have a great return on your investment. The cost of living index in Salt Lake City is 126.8 which is higher than the national average. This inflated cost of living is primarily due to housing costs increasing drastically.
7. Thinking about retiring in Utah?
Utah taxes Social Security benefits and withdrawals from retirement accounts are also taxed. Utah is certainly not the least retirement tax-friendly state but it is definitely not the most retirement tax-friendly state, either. Just something to keep in mind if you are thinking about making a move here when you retire.
8. Provo, Utah is a happening place
Provo, Utah is making the headlines for its low unemployment rate, top university (Brigham Young University) and high quality of life. This city is ranked as one of the Top 10 Cities for Job Opportunities in 2019.

Utah is a red state when it comes to politics. Overall, Utah is a patriotic state and it is not uncommon during the 4th of July, Labor Day, Flag Day, and Memorial Day for residents to put out their flags to show their support. If you are moving to Utah from a blue state, you will find some drastically different views and attitudes. Utahns overall are very friendly, so political differences often do not have to be a source of conflict.
10. Winter sports and activities are BIG in Utah.
Utah is famous for its incredible ski resorts and provides epic winter experiences for skiing and snowboarding. Utah attracts tourists from all across the globe who are wanting that sensational winter ski experience. Winter sports are a big part of the state's economy, however, it is also extremely popular with the locals as well who thrive in an active lifestyle.
